Pregnant women should be careful in taking vitamin supplements

Pregnant women need a variety of vitamins and supplements to become a strong pregnancy and the mother can remain active for example, taking prenatal vitamins. But pregnant women should pay more attention to intake of vitamin A because if the dose is too high would be dangerous for fetus. Vitamin A is one of the vitamins that are fat soluble and stored in the liver. This vitamin is important for the baby in the process of embryo development, cell growth of the eye, heart, ears, providing skin health, fight infection and help the growth of bone and fat metabolism.

As for pregnant women, vitamin A as contained in the best prenatal vitamin to help repair the tissue after birth and maintain normal vision and helps the mother against infection. During pregnancy a mother’s vitamin A needs about 770 micrograms (2.565 IU / international units) per day. In the meantime if you are breast-feeding needs increased to 1300 micrograms (4.330 IU) per day.

Getting vitamin A can naturally come from meat, milk, fish, eggs, cereals and most fruits and vegetables in the form of beta-carotene. These nutrients by the body will be converted into chewable prenatal vitamins. But the most important thing that must be done by pregnant women is concerned vitamin A in supplements consumed. Because the intake of vitamin A that is excessive or in high doses can be harmful to the fetus causing birth defects and liver toxicity (liver toxicity).
