Alcohol consumption

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), alcoholism is the fifth most important risk factor for premature death and disability:
* Reduces life expectancy by 12 years.
* It is responsible for at least 200,000 deaths annually.
* Is involved in half of all deaths from motor vehicle accidents.
* It is the fourth leading cause of suicides.
* It is related to more than 65% of the murders.
Y * is considered the main health problem in developed countries.

Diseases associated with alcohol addiction
The cerebrum and cerebellum are the primary organs affected by alcohol. The first damage usually cause hallucinations, dementia and delirium tremens, which can be fatal. The damage in the second, meanwhile, tend to cause loss of coordination, vertical and memory.

The liver, for its part, is the organ most affected is responsible for metabolizing the alcohol in 90%. Fatty liver, alcoholic hepatitis and liver cirrhosis, are among the ailments caused by harmful habit.

But not just the brain and liver are affected by alcoholism: the stomach, pancreas, kidneys, heart, and to the testes and ovaries, may also be harmed.

As binge drinking poses serious health risks
Alcohol dependence reduces life expectancy, is linked to half of all deaths in traffic accidents and is one of the causes of suicide.

Miguel is an inveterate alcoholic. At 60 years, has nothing good to tell of his life because of his addiction to alcohol lost family, jobs and prestige. Their only child abandonment can not forgive. Alcoholism is a chronic disease

Role of genetics in children of alcoholics
According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, United States, studies have shown that genetic factors are closely linked to the likelihood of alcoholism. In fact, today it is known that children of alcoholics are four times more likely to develop this disease than the rest of the population.

Alcoholism and Liver Diseases

Excessive alcohol consumption is one of the problems of our day and our liver is the culprit of many diseases of this organ. Alcohol is responsible for alcoholic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis aid, etc…

Several epidemiological studies indicate a clear relationship between alcohol consumption and liver disease. It has also shown a close correlation between alcoholic cirrhosis mortality per capita per year. (more…)

Alcoholism and Gastritis

Alcohol irritates the stomach and produces alcoholic gastritis, the patient loses his appetite and have nausea and vomiting, avoid fats and meats, which leads to digestive imbalances. The liver function is altered and produces hepatitis, liver cirrhosis and fatty liver.

Gastritis is an inflammation of the gastric mucosa. It may be accidental and strong (acute), due to ingestion of poison (usually alcohol, abuse of coffee, exciting or snuff), and chronic, caused by the slow action of the gastric juices. It results in difficulty to digest properly. (more…)

Alcoholism and Diabetes

The American Diabetes Association suggests that alcohol consumption (low, moderate, no more than two drinks per day for men and no more than one drink per day for women) is acceptable for some diabetics – if the doctor approves.

Some diabetics should not drink because alcohol can worsen their conditions. For example, diabetics with high triglycerides (a type of blood fat) should not consume alcohol because it affects the liver’s ability to remove fat from the bloodstream. (more…)

Alcoholism and Delirium

Delirium is a disorder characterized by vision or speech of absurd ideas, disjointed or real but unrelated. This pathological state of hallucination, vision or perception of strange situations, absurd, horrible or unreal accompanies certain diseases or excess.

A high fever may be accompanied by a delusional state is in spoken, seen or lived, no memory, different situations. The toxic products that act directly on the CNS (Central Nervous System) are those which arise more frequently delusions. Almost all drugs are produced, although some, such as hallucinogens, are characterized precisely by that. (more…)

Alcohol and Headaches

It is the technical name of the headache. There are so many types and many causes may be that one could write a complex treatise on these pains that, in principle, be distinguished from migraine or migraine.

Alcohol and Cancer

Some studies have reported that alcoholism may contribute to the development of certain cancers. For example, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) concluded that cancer in the oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, esophagus, colon, breast and liver is causally related to the consumption of alcohol where 50 grams of alcohol or more per day is associated with an increased risk of contracting these diseases. Fatty liver and alcohol

It is the accumulation of fat inside liver cells (hepatocytes). It is the most frequent abnormality observed in most alcoholics. It occurs as a result of changes in fat metabolism induced by alcohol. In some cases produces no clinical manifestations, but in others, causing specific symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort and weight loss. (more…)
